Popular Saints: Traditional festivities across Portugal

The traditional festivities of the Popular Saints – in Portuguese, Santos Populares – are finally back in town!

The month of June is largely known as the festivities’ month due to its most famous Saints: Santo António in Lisbon on June 13th, and São João in Porto on June 24th.

These two days are marked with local holidays and, both cities get an overwhelming set of parties with live popular music, sardines and people coming out to the streets. In Lisbon, Santo António also includes a huge parade, the typical weddings and of course: the Arraiais! On these parties, you will find loud music with a mass of locals and foreigners dancing until late night. Definitely a must add-on to your Portugal tour, if you’re planning your visit to Lisbon or Porto!
